Last week, I said I'd do my most-popular story, but there's three different ways I could view the popularity of a story - most page views, most reviews (per chapter), or most favorites. While 'least' on all of those pointed to I Can Only Stay If You've The Will To Keep Me Here, 'most' goes to three different stories - most reviews is Like Kissing Her Brother, and most favorites is Stuck In The Middle With You.

Most page views, though...that's not a metric most people get to see, and it's something I find very interesting. There is one story that has about as many page views as the next 4 stories put together; its first chapter has more page views than all but one other story. That story is my first M-rated story, Something Special. (This was my first realization that the way to get page views was to make people think they'd find porn inside.)

Something Special is a very conflicted story. It's trying to carefully walk the line between an M rating and E/MA. It's trying to portray a significant change in the relationships between several characters, while still giving a portrayal of sex that at least some people will find hot. It's also one of exactly two stories that weren't completely written when I started posting it (the other being What's Up Doc?, which was posted on alternating days with it).

But there's still quite a few things I love about it. Here's three:
  • I love that Ginger and Baljeet are the first ones to take that step. I beat them up a bit here, but I love that the girl whose friends all pooh-poohed her crush and the boy that folks considered a nerd beyond redemption got together - first.
  • I love the reactions from the parents, Ginger's especially. Ginger's mom is a doctor, her father is a police officer; they've both seen the results of bad choices here. Dad really wants to be a hard-ass about this, but Mom has clearly come down on him over it and won the day for the position that it's better to let them do things safely and responsibly than try to keep it from happening...and now they're coming in and presenting a united front. He may not be 100% thrilled with this solution, but he will back his wife 100%. Isabella's mother's response is much more romantic; Phineas's father's is much more serious. They're all trying to find a good balance for their kids.
  • I love Buford's little bit here. He's a fun character to write, and his responses here are just beautiful. “That sounds like nerd talk for ‘she put out’ to me. Now, what were the magic words? I need to try to get parallel with Milly.”
Not sure what I'll do next. Suggestions are welcome.
