I’m working on this story again - it just passed 10k words, and is about one chapter from completion. This is a canon divergence AU; Isabella never moved in across the street, and instead grew up across town. She led a competing Fireside Girls troop, which came in second to Adyson’s in number of patches earned for several years running. Accusations of cheating caused a very strong enmity between the two girls.

Phineas walked down the hallway as the school day ended, holding Adyson’s hand.

“I just need to stop at my locker and drop off books for the night,” she said, then sighed. “I just wish I didn’t have her locker next to mine.”

“Whose?” Phineas asked, confused.

Hers,” she replied, nodding her head in the direction of the girl who was just closing the locker next to Adyson’s. “Isabella,” she explained in a bitter voice. “Head of Troop 75309.”

Phineas nodded, understanding. Adyson had complained about the girl for years, but he’d never seen her before. She looked…well, not as evil as Adyson described. Long black hair with a bright pink bow in it, and large, dark blue eyes. She was wearing a light pink blouse and patterned skirt, and he suddenly remembered that he’d seen her in English class. She was attractive enough, although he flushed with embarrassment a bit as he realized it. He tried not to pay enough attention to other girls to notice such things; Adyson was his girlfriend, and he didn’t need to keep window-shopping.

The final Trope Bingo story is done in first draft, working on some rewrites now for posting later this week. I’ve posted from this one before, but it’s ripe for another post.

Perry idly strolled into the backyard, his mission for the day complete. Doof had been defeated, and Perry had gotten away scot-free. The Tofu-inator hadn’t even gotten a shot off before Perry had hit the self-destruct. And now, his favorite part of the day…

He waited for somebody to say, “Oh, there you are, Perry,” but there was just silence.

He looked around. The backyard was empty. That wasn’t right.

So Phineas the Fireside Girl ends on a note that there may be a sequel, as Phineas has hurt his relationship with Isabella by turning himself into a girl to sneak into the initiation ceremony, getting caught, and lying about it.

Now, he’s trying to make amends. It’s not going as well as he’d hoped.

“Why’s he here?” Milly asked, nodding her head toward Phineas.

“He has something he needs to tell us,” Isabella said to the rest of the Fireside Girls troop.

They’d gathered in the cramped Fireside Girls’ clubhouse, just two days after the recent initiation ceremony. Two new girls had been initiated: Amy, who had just finished making her new uniform and sat quietly with the rest of the troop, and Phoebe, who didn’t appear to be there yet.

His hand rubbing the back of his neck uncomfortably, Phineas took a deep breath. Dropping his hand to his side, he said, “So, the truth is - Phoebe was me. I turned myself into a girl to see what happened during the initiation. It was a stupid idea, Ferb tried to talk me out of it, I’m sorry, I won’t ever do it again. I took an oath not to tell anyone any of your secrets, and I’ll keep it.”

The girls weren’t as stunned as he had expected. Instead, they mostly nodded knowingly. “I should have guessed,” Gretchen said to Ginger in a quiet voice.

This story continues the timeline from Mistletoe Is Serious Business, Are You Sure, Vanessa?, Are You Sure, Ferb?, and Like Kissing Her Brother. I’ve been taking lessons from Sabrina06 on making characters’ lives miserable. Here we have a bit of a flashback on Lawrence’s part.

Lawrence looked at the divorce papers that had just been handed to him. Millicent had left, saying, effectively, “You wanted the kid, he’s your problem. I told you I wasn’t ready to be a mother yet.” Now she was making it official, and giving him sole custody.

He put the papers down on the table by the front door, and looked over at his toddler son, playing on the floor. He’d gotten his father’s nose, but his mother’s green hair, and the results were striking. The boy looked up at him, his bright eyes inquiring.

"Sorry, Ferb. Not your problem. It’s going to be just you and me from now on."

Ferb shrugged and picked up his toy truck again.

This is from an upcoming story that fits the trope bingo fill ‘character in distress’.

“CURSE YOU, PINKY THE CHIHUAHUA!” Professor Poofenplotz shouted as the small dog parachuted away from her lair. With a deep sigh, she looked around the shambles the agent had made. Her latest plan had been torn apart again, and she had to start from scratch. Just another day in the life of an evil scientist.

She couldn’t bear to clean yet, so she found herself staring out the window, not really seeing the traffic going by beneath. Why do I even bother? she thought. Upstaged by a chihuahua. Again.

A pair of boys shot past her building, flying along on rocket skates. As she watched, they maneuvered and dodged, twirling past buildings and around light poles. Clever boys. Perhaps they’d help me out with…suitable incentive.

She smiled. An evil plan had occurred to her. And this time, Pinky the Chihuahua wouldn’t be able to stop her.

I’m thrashing between four different stories right now, but this is the only one I haven’t posted a Sunday Six from yet. This is for the ‘genderswap’ space on my Trope Bingo board; Phineas has transformed himself into a girl to infiltrate a Fireside Girls meeting. (Ferb thinks this is a colossally bad idea.)

“Okay, Ferb, how do I look?” Phineas asked. She’d dressed up in a light blue blouse and dark blue capri pants. Ferb looked her over, sighed, and gave a thumbs up. “Okay, great. Wish me luck.” Ferb shook his head emphatically.

“Hey, you guys, what are you doing?” Candace said, coming out into the back yard. She was enjoying a rare day off from her job at the Googolplex Mall. “Because if it’s bustable, I’m going to tell Mom.” She looked at Phineas for a moment, puzzled, before her eyes suddenly got wide. “You turned yourself into a girl, Phineas? You are so busted!”

“And busty,” Ferb noted wryly.

“That too,” Candace said, stopping herself from running into the house. “Hey, how did you manage that? Because, I’m 17 and you’ve got me beat there. Did you tweak it to add cup sizes? Because if you did…”

Ferb shook his head, and Phineas said, “No, nothing like that. Maybe I got it from Dad’s side of the family.”

Today’s story is from a Ferbnessa story where Vanessa is working as a barista in the city where Ferb has just started college.

Looking at the cup, she called out, “Darjeeling for Fred?” as she carried it to the counter.

A hand was reaching toward the cup as she set it down; she looked up…

Oh.

She recognized him quickly. The green hair was a giveaway, even if the eyes - those deep blue eyes - hadn’t riveted her immediately.

“Hey, your name’s not Fred,” she said.

He grinned. “It’s easier than trying to convince someone to call me Ferb. It’s been a while - how’ve you been?”

Today's entry is from a Hanukkah story I'm working on for a holiday contest.

She shook her head, snapping out of Phineasland. She’d tried so hard not to do that. She was thirteen years old now, and that sort of fantasy wasn’t appropriate for her any more. She was a teenager now, not a little girl. She needed to deal with Phineas realistically. He was a good friend. A very good friend. A very, very good friend that she wanted to hug and kiss and cuddle with and...

She sighed. It was so hard to deal with this.

It’s still Sunday in Hawaii. Even though I’m not there.

This week’s Sunday Six is from a Christmas story I wrote in September, which will start going out on Tuesday. It’s A Christmas Carol, starring Phineas as Scrooge.

Yes, I know, it’s a stretch. Run with it.

"Hi, Phineas," Candace said, juggling packages. "Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas, Candace," he said grumpily.

"I know you don’t want to come to Mom and Dad’s tomorrow," she said hopefully, "but if you’d like a smaller family Christmas, you’re welcome to come visit us tomorrow morning. Amanda’s visiting with her new husband, and the boys are back from college. We’d all love to see you."

"I’ll think about it," he said hesitantly.

She frowned. “That means no, doesn’t it? We miss you. You’re turning into Scrooge on us.”

"It means I’ll think about it, Candace."

"I suppose that’s the best I could hope for," she said with a sigh. "Hope to see you tomorrow, then," she said, and headed on her way.

Scrooge, eh? Bah, humbug.

Today’s story is set in a future where Phineas left two weeks after his daughter was born. Now it’s the child’s first birthday, and he’s back.

Isabella stood there, looking daggers at him. “Nice of you to make it back for her birthday,” she said bitterly. Behind her and clinging to her leg, a toddler with bright blue eyes and auburn hair looked up at him questioningly.

“I’m sorry. I was the biggest idiot in the world. I can’t justify running like that. I just got scared. I know it’s too late to patch things up with you, but…” He nodded to the little girl behind Isabella. “I need to be there for her.”

Managed to miss both of my usual weekly posts this week. Oops.

Currently working on Miles Away primarily; current word count is 5963. I'm guessing 12k for the final count, so it's halfway. I'm just about ready to call With My Fic Or On It on this one to finish it off.

Other plotbunnies currently in progress: a Gravity Falls story in which Dipper ages himself up to date Wendy, a story where Phineas comes back a year after running away from Isabella and their newborn daughter, and a story of Candace and Jeremy's first time.

On Thursday, post three things you love about a story.

Okay, I’ve been saving this story - Back In Time For Dinner - for a special occasion, and this is it. A year ago today, I was planning my NaNoWriMo story when I got ambushed by what, I later found out, is called a plotbunny. I had been ambushed by another (dirtier) one about a week prior, and had written it out, and now I had the ‘but how did they get to that point?’ thought. And I worked through an idea on how Phineas and Isabella could end up together by getting trapped together in the past.

But, I didn’t have time to write it up. I had a Real Story to write, starting the next day. And the next day, I wrote 1528 words of Real Story to start NaNoWriMo. And then, on November 2, I opened the Real Story, took one look at it, closed it, and opened a new file in Drive. Initially I called it “Lost In Time”, but the title changed after somebody else posted a story with that name. On that first day, I wrote 1272 words of it, a first cut of chapter 1 and the beginning of chapter 2, up until they get to the river.

I waited until my AO3 account invite arrived in mid-December to start releasing it; this gave me time to finish it, then spend a month or so polishing it, and the story is definitely the better for it.

As my first released story, I’m obviously very fond of it. Three specific things I love:

  1. I love Phineas’s automatic reaction to hand Isabella his shirt when she gets soaked. I hadn’t planned that; I’d just thought having her fall in the water made sense. This was the first time I’d had a character surprise me. (It’s far from the last.)
  2. I love that it feels like a real episode. There’s a Perry/Doof subplot, albeit a minimal one. There’s multiple storylines going on at once. There’s even a song. Most of the Phinbella I write ends up not feeling like Phineas and Ferb because there’s no inventions or -inators; this one works.
  3. I love Linda’s reaction at the end. She walks into her backyard and sees her son and the neighbor making out, and her reaction? She calls the girl’s mother and tells her that he finally figured it out. (In Firsts, we see that they’ve been waiting for this moment for months, maybe even years.)

Running a bit late this week - oops. Busy day yesterday. This is from a piece coming out later this week. Phineas and Isabella are coming back from colleges on opposite sides of the country for Thanksgiving break.

He exited the secure area, and there she was. His mother had brought her along. Isabella flung herself into his arms. "You made it back," she said simply into his shoulder as the couple embraced each other tightly.

"Missed you so much," he whispered into her hair.

From behind Isabella, his mother said, "Aww, that's so sweet. When you two can stand on your own again, we can go pick up Phineas's luggage."

On Thursday, post three things you love about a story.

Three plotbunnies have ambushed me in the past two days, so you get another one of my stories today. As we’re approaching the end of the second round of trope bingo, we’re doing the first story I posted for the first round.

You Must Remember This filled my ‘kiss to save the day’ square. I can see problems with it when I look at it now, but in its own way I still love it. Specific things I love:

  1. I love the title. Especially when combined with the next line of the song (“You must remember this, a kiss is just a kiss”) it fits so perfectly.
  2. I love Ferb’s note. Written in the secret Elven language from Stumbleberry Finkbat, which Perry just happens to be able to read. (I also love that Perry was planning to give the notes back in a couple weeks, once it was safe to do so.)
  3. I love that Phineas isn’t sure he wants this when Isabella kisses him. “As he’d dreamt of and feared” sums up how I tend to view Phineas’s view of a relationship with Isabella at this point; he knows she’s interested, and is intrigued, but has No Idea what to do about it.

A bit more on Miles Away, in which Isabella never moved to Maple Drive and grew up on the other side of town. Here, she's just started her first day of high school and discovered that she knows the person with the locker next to hers...and they don't much care for each other.

Isabella's eyes narrowed. "Phineas? Of Phineas and Ferb? The boys who won the Most Patches award for you four years running? He's your boyfriend now?"

Adyson glared at her defensively. "We earned those patches, Isabella, and you know it."

"If we'd had someone helping us like that, we'd have blown past you every year. I still say they need to change the rules on how much ‘help’ you can get."

"You're just jealous that your troop got second place for four years running," Adyson said, closing her locker.

"Because you cheated," Isabella said angrily.

Today we get a piece from a forthcoming sequel to "It's Complicated". It's not based around Facebook, but covers the first couple months of Phineas and Isabella trying to rebuild their relationship.

“Isabella, this is my roommate, Ian. Ian, this is my girlfriend Isabella,” Phineas said.

“Nice to meet you,” Ian said, waving from his seat at his desk. He was tall and thin, sandy-haired with blue eyes hiding behind thick glasses. “So this is why Phineas hasn’t been around for dinner all week.”

“Yeah, we’ve been meeting up over in Boston,” Phineas said.

“We’ve got some lost time to make up for,” Isabella said, looking up at her boyfriend and squeezing his hand.
